Development of humanity and ethics of engineers

To cultivate a broad and deep liberal education curriculum and comprehensive judgment for responding to the drastic changes in our society and the rapid progress in science and technology, and nurturing humanity worldwide by the following steps:

  1. Acquire methodology effective for the understanding and research of humans and engineering, and develop interdisciplinary understanding and gain a broader perspective of human culture and the global environment
  2. Understand that civil engineering is related not only to other engineering fields but also to a wide range of disciplines like humanities and social sciences

To understand the role that infrastructure plays for humans, the society, and nature, and develop the ethics of engineers involved in civil engineering by the following steps:

  1. Recognize the social responsibility of civil engineers, and instill the sense of justice and responsibility in them
  2. Acquire adequate education to develop the ability and judgment of civil engineers on the basis of ethics

Fundamental scholastic ability, expertise, and the ability of problem searching and problem solving

To acquire fundamental knowledge of engineering necessary to master civil engineering, and develop the ability to solve fundamental technical problems in civil engineering by applying the fundamental knowledge through the following steps:

  1. Acquire fundamental engineering knowledge necessary for a civil engineer in the fields of mathematics, natural science, and information processing
  2. Develop the ability to analyze and consider things objectively and multilaterally using fundamental engineering knowledge

To acquire expertise in civil engineering and develop the ability to apply the acquired expertise to various problems in civil engineering by the following steps:

  1. Through lectures and lecture-based practices, acquire a wide range of fundamental knowledge and technology in the major fields of civil engineering and develop the ability to solve fundamental problems in each field
  2. Acquire a wide range of knowledge and technology necessary for an all-round engineer involved in civil engineering by studying advanced and specialized subjects with the help of fundamental knowledge in each field
  3. Acquire the ability to master advanced expertise and technology in close coordination with the curriculum of the graduate school

To acquire the ability to find issues and problems related to civil engineering and learn to analyze and solve them from various angles by the following steps:

  1. Acquire the ability to analyze actual phenomena and clarify their mechanism through experiments, practices, and graduation research
  2. Acquire basic technology for the collection of relevant information independently and develop thinking ability and creativity

Management ability

To acquire management ability to solve problems comprehensively by taking into consideration not only technology but also safety, quality, environment, cost, and time by the following steps:

  1. Understand that civil engineering is a comprehensive discipline related not only to technology but many other factors like humanity, nature, and society (safety, quality, cost, time, etc.)
  2. Acquire the ability to address the target problem by integrating specific knowledge and technology, performing the job systematically under the given constraints, and organizing the job content

Communication ability

To acquire the ability to communicate in Japanese and acquire basic knowledge of English for effective international communication by the following steps:

  1. Acquire the ability to describe, present, and discuss one’s ideas in Japanese
  2. Acquire the basic ability to read and write technical sentences of civil engineering in English

Ability required for an advanced engineer

To acquire the ability to consistently improve one’s expertise by focusing on the technology used in civil engineering and also be updated with the latest technology introduced in the market through the following steps:

  1. Study social trends and developing technology and applying it effectively
  2. Learn to study independently and continuously through lectures, practices, experiments, and graduation research

To take the initiative in fields related to civil engineering as an advanced engineer or researcher who can take an active role socially and internationally after graduation, and develop intellect and humanity necessary for this purpose

Education and learning targets required by JABEE

To acquire the ability to consistently improve one’s expertise by focusing on the technology used in civil engineering and also be updated with the latest technology introduced in the market through the following steps:

  • Ability and education to think multilaterally from a global viewpoint
  • Understanding of the influence and effect of technology on the society and nature, and the responsibility that engineers have toward the society (Ethics of engineers)
  • Knowledge of mathematics, natural science, and information technology and the ability to apply it
  • Knowledge of expertise in relevant fields and the ability to apply it to problem-solving
  • Ability to design using various sciences, technologies, and information to meet social needs
  • Fluency in Japanese in order to conduct effective discussions and be able to provide logical descriptions and oral presentations along with a basic knowledge of English for effective international communication
  • The ability to learn independently and continuously
  • Perform tasks systematically and organize them according to the given constraints
